PV school board
The Pleasant Valley Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m., Thursday in the district office in Brodheadsville.
Free fun time
The Western Pocono Lioness Club, in cooperation with the West End Park and Open Space Commission, will host its Patriotic Coloring contest for children 5-12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday at the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville. Winners must be present at award time.
Other activities include crafts, writing a letter to a soldier and free ice cream.
The activity is in honor of the Fourth of July.
Gospel concert
The musical gospel trio Witness will be in concert at Mount Eaton Church, Saylorsburg, at 6:30 p.m., Saturday. Go to www.witnessonline.org for details on the trio.

Mount Eaton is a non-denominational church serving the west end of Monroe County. It holds worship on Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings and offers a variety of programs for family members of all ages.
Touch of Home
A regular meeting for Operation: Touch of Home will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 3, at the American Legion Post #927, Gilbert.
Safe driver course
The next AARP Safe Driver course being offered at the Chestnuthill Park building is the eight-hour course. It will be given in two four-hour slots, from 1-5 p.m., Saturday, July 21 and July 28.

Monroe Seniors
The Monroe Seniors group at Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville will meet at 9 a.m., Friday, June 29.

Effort UMC
Abbie McLaughlin played a piano solo at the Effort UMC worship service on Sunday.
The Supplemental Family Resource Center at Effort UMC has several needs, including donated food and paper and plastic bags. Food items needed include peanut butter and jelly, tuna, and pancake mix.
Food donations must be sealed and not out of date. Bags must be clean and dry.
Donations may be brought to the church during regular business hours or before special events, when the church is open.

Effort UMC's Bob Decker announced the congregation is now mortgage free. That event will be celebrated with a mortgage burning ceremony late in September or early October. However, the congregation has other commitments to meet so the stewardship of its members' and friends' needs to continue in good stead.
West End Rotary
Dr. Christopher Brooks, from the history department at East Stroudsburg University, will be the featured speaker at the June 28 meeting of the West End Rotary Club. The club meets at 7:30 a.m., at the Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville.
Sneakers collected
Our Lady Queen of Peace is collecting new or nearly new sneakers to help the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network help needy families in the Pleasant Valley or Stroudsburg school districts.
Sneakers must meet the respective school district requirements of color, color of laces and no patterns on the sneaker.
