Area Girl Scout leaders honored
Two Lehighton women were recognized for the large number of years they have devoted to Girl Scouts in the Lehighton area.
Geri Haas and Janet Rimbey were presented membership pins by Kathleen Hosler, service unit manager; and Georganne Seely, Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania membership manager.
Haas was presented a 50-year pin, while Rimbey received a 40-year pin.
Haas began her Girl Scout career as a Brownie Girl Scout and then added 48 more years as a leader of Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes and Seniors and Ambassadors.
The name Ambassadors is the name presently used for the former Cadette and Senior level of Scouting. She is presently leader of Ambassador Troop 3583.
Rimbey moved through the ranks of Scouting, from Brownie, Junior, Cadette and Senior and then joined on as a Brownie leader, which is the level where she is still involved today.
Rimbey said that as a Brownie living in the Slatington area, she took the train to Jim Thorpe and then was bused to Camp Mosey Wood in the Poconos.
