R.R. Frey wins 3rd straight title

R.R. Frey Services captured its third consecutive Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission (ESRC) Summer Basketball League championship by defeating B & R Gym, 61-38, on Friday.

R.R. Frey Services (10-2) started off the game strong on a 7-0 run before Chris Decker finally got B & R Gym on the scoreboard at the 15:58 mark of the first half. R.R. Frey then went on a second scoring run as it upped the lead to 15-2 and eventually 21-6 halfway through the first half.

After the first 20 minutes, R.R. Frey was comfortably in command, 34-16, behind Ryan Achenbach's 14 first-half points. B & R closed the gap to 14 points in the second half, but Dan Miller scored 11 of his 14 points after the break to preserve the 23-point victory.

Achenbach finished with a game-high 19 points, en route to being crowned League MVP after the contest. Miller scored 14, while Tom Toth pulled down 11 rebounds for R.R. Frey.

For B & R Gym (8-4), Decker led the way with 16 points.

R.R. Frey Services will now be representing the ESRC and the Tamaqua area in the 2011 Catasauqua Tournament of Champions. R.R. Frey Services drew a first round bye and will take on the winner of the North Catasauqua/South Whitehall game tonight at 7:40 p.m.
