Northwestern's Cole Miller captured the Colonial League golf championship to highlight Wednesday's scholastic sports action.

GOLF

CL Championship

Miller won the Colonial League championships at Bethlehem Municipal Golf Course.

The sophomore shot a 3-over par 74 to beat Southern Lehigh's James Shaheen by one stroke.

Miller, who placed fourth last year at his first league tournament, shot even par on the back nine Wednesday to earn the title.

"I was actually one under after two holes," he said. "Then by the end of the nine I was three over, so the first nine was disappointing. The back nine I came around and started shooting birdies and pars."

As a league champ, Miller is exempt from District 11 Championship qualifying and earns a berth directly into the championship tournament, which will be held at his home course, Blue Ridge Country Club in Palmerton.

Palmerton's Ben Andrews placed fourth at leagues with a 76. A senior, Andrews has placed in the top 10 at leagues all four years of high school, including a second-place finish last year.

Northwestern's Devin Haddad placed second among girls with a 97. It was her second runner-up finish in four years at the tournament.

The Tigers placed fourth as a team in both the four-team competition for the league's regular season title, as well as in the tournament's team standings, which included all teams in the league.

Notre Dame of Green Pond won both team titles.
