Agosto does it all for Indians

The Eagles have Mike Vick, Baylor has Robert Griffin III, and the Lehighton Indians (3-5, 1-4 MVC) have Josh Agosto. The Lehighton quarterback certainly isn't on the the level of Griffin or Vick, but to the Indians he is just as important.

Agosto showed just how important he was to the Indians in week eight against Pocono Mountain West. He not only got the job done through the air passing for 187 yards and two scores, but used his legs as well rushing for 152 yards and two more touchdowns. Agosto's performance against the Panthers has earned him week eight TIMES NEWS Player of the Week.

Although Agosto is rolling right now, the beginning of the season was not so kind. The senior signal caller had to sit out the first four games with an elbow injury. Agosto, who arguably has the best arm in the TIMES NEWS area had a competitive burn inside of him that was just waiting to set fire to the opposition.

"It was frustrating being out, but I knew my team was capable while I on was the sidelines," said Agosto. "I wanted to come back when I was ready though, so I knew I would be strong and could throw the football to the best of my ability."

Agosto's modesty about being on the sidelines is a great quality to possess as a young football player, but it's evident that the Indians are a better team with him on the field.

"Josh does a great job for us," added Lehighton Head Coach George Ebbert. "He's done a great job of scrambling and extending plays and is also running the ball very well. Anthony (Farole) did a good job filling in at quarterback and you can't take that away from Anthony, but Josh gives us a different dynamic on the offensive side of the football."

Dynamic is probably the best word to describe Agosto with the way he manipulates opposing defenses. Against the Panthers last week Agosto was responsible for 339 of the Indians 402 total yards and also became Lehighton's all-time leading passer in the process. However, Agosto's greatest accomplishment of the night came late in the fourth quarter. With the Indians up by three needing a score to put West out of reach, Agosto ran the ball six times for 84 yards, including a two-yard touchdown run to shut the door on the Panthers.

"My success here at Lehighton is a credit to the players on my team," said Agosto. "My line does a great job and I have a talented bunch of receivers to throw to every week. I just try to lead by example and personally push myself to try and get better. I'm looking forward to playing football for the next two weeks and hopefully getting two more wins for our football team."

"Our team chemistry is just better with Josh on the field," said Ebbert. "He's a young man who knows how to handle himself on the football field and does a great job of leading us."

Agosto and company will look to grab an all important win this week at East Stroudsburg North (4-4, 2-2 MVC). The Indians and Timberwolves are both still in the hunt for a District 11 AAA playoff birth.
