Tamaqua HS Class of 1946 gathers for 65-year reunion
The Tamaqua High School Class of 1946 held its 65th anniversary reunion on Oct. 15, at the Top of the 80's in Hazleton. Welcoming remarks were made by Herb Curvey, while Floyd Zimmerman offered the invocation and benediction. A moment of silence was held in memory of the 73 deceased class members, whose names were read aloud by Irene Billman. Jean Hochstetter Tonkin provided the treasurer's report. The class discussed the scholarship award that was established in 1999. Class members in attendance included: front row, from left, Joseph Toth, Jean Hochstetter Tonkin, Herb Curvey, Nellie Verbickas Wenzel, Irene Billman Pecha and Barbara Campbell Nowack; second row, John Borzatti, William Fritz, Catherine Jeffrey, Annamae Fisher Massa, Thelma Berner Reese, Kathryn Lehotta Evans and Ruth Keilman Keller; third row, J. Chester Derr, Richard Hartranft, Edward Kennedy, Floyd Zimmerman, Ben Keller and Boyd Ulrich. A class picnic will be held next summer on Aug. 4.
