NV opens with shutout victory
Northern Valley opened the Lehigh Valley Legion Tournament with an impressive performance to highlight local youth baseball action Thursday.

Regular season champion Northern Valley opened up post-season play with a 4-0 victory over Southern Lehigh.
The winners got an outstanding pitching performance from starter Tyler Hill and strong relief pitching from Dalton Conway and Talon Williams. Hill worked five innings, allowing just one hit and striking out eight. Conway and Williams both tossed a hitless inning of relief.
Northern Valley did most of its offensive damage in the opening inning as it pushed across three runs. Zachary Palansky's two-run single was the big blow in the frame.
Northern Valley had just four hits in the game with Hill getting two of them. He also scored a run and knocked in a run. Palansky scored a run in addition to his two RBIs. Kyle Schomp added an RBI triple.
The victory puts Northern Valley in the winner's bracket semifinal of the double-elimination tournament. It will host Coplay tonight at 5:45 p.m at Northwestern High School.

LITTLE LEAGUE

Franklin Twp.-Tam. White
Franklin Township used a strong pitching and hitting performance by Daniel Keer to beat Tamaqua White, 12-3.
On the mound, Keer struck out six to earn the win. At the plate, he had two doubles and a single.
In addition to the big game from Keer, FT also got strong performances from Gabe Wagner, who had three hits, and Frank Bokan and Haris Cokrlija, who had two hits each.
Franklin Township had 14 hits in the game.
Franklin will play the winner of Valley West-White Haven on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Christian Gavornik fanned 13 and went two-for-three at the plate as Franklin Township defeated Hazleton/Hazle Township, 9-1, in the Babe Ruth 15 year old Tournament on Wednesday.
FT's Ian Sterlin had a bases-loaded double, Bryce Miccichie had two hits, and Justin Kaminski scored a pair of runs.
Franklin's next game will be against Pottsville on Saturday at 3 p.m. The entire tournament is being played at Christman's Field in Franklin Township.
