Chester driver injured in crash

A Chester County driver was injured in a one vehicle crash that occurred about 11:03 p.m. on Sunday, July 11, along SR183 in North Manheim Township, Schuylkill County. The crash was one of several investigated by state police at Schuylkill Haven on county roadways.

Troopers said Walter E. Miller, 59, of Honey Brook, was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Lumina northbound when he fell asleep. The car left the road and traveled along a grassy area for about 40 feet before impacting with guard rail with the right front. The car then traveled on top of the guard rail for about 90 feet before impacting with a concrete culvert with the front end.

Miller was flown by Medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, for treatment of injuries. Troopers said he will be cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic.

A Berks County motorcyclist was injured in a crash that ocucrred about 6 a.m. on Friday, July 8, along SR61, near Pheasant Run Road, in West Brunswick Township. Troopers said Kenneth C. White, 50, of Shoemakersville, was driving a 1981 Kawasaki KZ440 northbound and negotiating a curve when a deer entered the road in front of him. The front wheel of the bike struck the deer throwing White to the ground. The bike continued about 500 feet north, crossed all lanes, and came to rest in a dirt lot adjacent to the southbound lane.

White suffered lacerations and complained of pain and was transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for treatment.

A one vehicle crash occurred about 3:08 a.m. on Thursday, July 7, in which the driver is facing charges. Troopers said Vaughn J. Marshall, 25, of Minersville, was driving a 1998 Toyota Corolla westbound on SR209 in Norwegian Township when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the car. The car traveled across the west and eastbound lanes and struck a embankment along the berm.

After striking the embankment the vehicle rolled over onto the driver's side and came to rest facing north in the eastbound lane. Marshall fled the scene and a search of the area was conducted by troopers and Llewellyn Fire Company volunteers but he was not immediately found. He is facing a charge of driving on roadways lane for traffic and leaving the scene of an accident.

A two vehicle crash occurred about 2:16 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, along SR901 in Barry Townshp. Troopers said Walter T. McGinn, 80, of Trevorton, Northumberland County, was westbound and descending a incline while Julie A. Paul 27, of Middleburg, Snyder County, was eastbound in the passing lane and going up the incline.

Troopers said McGinn crossed over the double yellow line into the oncoming passing lane where the right front of his 1999 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck stuck the right front fender of Paul's 2003 Jeep Liberty.

Paul was injured and was treated at the scene while McGinn was not hurt. Troopers said McGinn was cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic.

Troopers investigated another crash on Friday, about 4:39 p.m., along Sweet Arrow Lake Road, in Washington Township. Troopers said Nicole L. Koppenhaver, 21, of Tremont, was westbound driving a 1999 Plymouth Neon while Michael J. Beck, 46, of Pine Grove, was eastbound driving a 2005 Dodge Magnum.

Koppenhaver was negotiating a right curve when she lost control of her vehicle. The Neon entered the eastbound lane and collided into the Magnum.

No one was injured. Troopers cited Koppenhaver for driving on roadways laned for traffic.
