Mission trip
Adults and youth from Effort United Methodist Church left Sunday for a mission trip to Peterstown, West Virginia, accompanied by the Rev. Robin Fisher, pastor. In the pastor's absence, the Rev. Robert G. Argot Sr., retired pastor, preached at both Sunday services.
Zion seniors
The Zion Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 21, at the church's fellowship hall in Brodheadsville.
Spanish Mass
A Spanish Mass will be offered at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Gilbert at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 24.
Double event
Chestnuthill Park in Brodheadsville is offering a double feature on Sunday, July 24. At 2 p.m., Change of Heart, will present a concert, while Art in the Park will be held from noon to 4 p.m.
New meeting time
The Western Pocono Lioness Club will now meet at 6 p.m. instead of 7 p.m., with the next meeting on Tuesday, July 26, at the American Legion Post Home on Route 209 in Gilbert. Refreshments will be served.
Anyone interested in helping make the community a better place is invited to join the group and see what Lioness is all about. Applications for new members are being accepted.

Drama presentation
"Heaven's Gates & Hell's Flames" is a drama presentation a look at the eternal impact of one's life choices. Mount Eaton Church, Saylorsburg, will be hosting performances on Sunday, July 24; Monday, July 25; and Tuesday, July 26 at 7 p.m. each night.

VBS at Effort UMC
Vacation Bible School will begin Monday, July 25, at Effort UMC. Classes will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon through Friday, July 29.

Lions visit
Members of the Western Pocono Lions Club will travel on July 26 with the Tannersville Lions Club to a picnic at Mountain View Park. The picnic continues a longtime get together between the two clubs. It is being held at Mountain View Park and will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Participants should bring a dish to share and their own place setting.
Leading PSAR
Dr. John B. Nye, former superintendent of the Pleasant Valley School District, is serving as president of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.
Local director
Saylorsburg resident Christine A. Horvath-Deuel is now the network director at Family Promise of Monroe County. The office has moved to 1283 North Ninth St., Stroudsburg, next to Fraily Insurance.
Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville is one of the supporting churches for the program, hosting enrolled families for one week when it is the church's turn.
The entity has many needs, including new pillows, tall kitchen trash bags, household paper products, various store and phone cards for the clients, diapers of all sizes and laundry detergent. Volunteers are also needed.
