Lansford

Food pantry

The Lansford Food Pantry will be open from 9:30-11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15. The pantry, which provides food to low-income residents, is housed in the Trinity Lutheran Church at 104 East Abbott St.

Parks and rec board

The Lansford Parks and Recreation Board recently underwent a reorganization. Officers are Gwen Collevechio, chairperson; Marie Ondrus and Irma Leibensperger, co-treasurers; and David Burrell, treasurer. Councilman Adam Webber is also a member of the board and Tom Evans will serve as the pool maintenance person.

Since the reorganization, members have been revamping some of the administrative programs and are formulating plans for a kiddie activities room. Also in the works is some end-of-season painting and the re-mulching of the area's playgrounds.

A number of fundraising events will be planned to help boost the funding provided through the tax millage allotted to parks and recreation. A benefit dance is being planned for Sept. 9 at Kelly's Irish Pub. Music will be provided by the Shantations.

Volunteers will be needed and a recruitment meeting is being planned for the near future.

The next meeting of the board will be held at 6 p.m. on Sept. 11 at the pool.
