PV Class of 1961
The Pleasant Valley High School Class of 1961 will formally celebrate the 50th anniversary of its graduation Saturday at the high school in Brodheadsville.
Reservations for the event have been received and are closed. Informal gatherings for breakfast and lunch on Sunday are in the works.
Lions travel
Members of the Western Pocono Lions Club traveled to the District 14U Cabinet meeting held at the Mahoning Country Club. Among the attendees were IPDG Bob Kelsey, Charles and Joanne Rush, Herman Green, MaryJane Lucrezi, Matt Held, and Bob Argot and his wife.
The district business meeting began with an inside picnic lunch followed by the many reports and activities of the district as well as certain club functions from throughout the four-county district.
Gazebo concert
Pocono Lutheran Village has been hosting concerts from its gazebo. At 7 p.m. Thursday the free concert will feature The Jolly Rheinlanders Brass Band with its folk music from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Bring your lawn chairs.

Farmer's Basket
Angela Tullo of Compassionate Care will be the featured speaker at the Chestnuthill Senior Center in Brodheadsville at 11:15 a.m Friday, Aug. 26. Her topic will be "Farmer's Basket."
One service
Effort United Methodist Church will have only one service on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 11 a.m. and will feature the quartet of Brothers in Grace concert.
The Saturday service will be held, as usual, at 5 p.m.
Rehearsals for the church choir begin anew on Wednesday, Aug. 31, under the direction of Dan Smale.
Schools open
The first day for students at the Pleasant Valley School District is Monday, Aug. 29.
Watch for the increased traffic at the school complex and on the roads as those yellow buses once again take the children to school.
Driver Safety Program
The short course of the AARP Driver Safety Program will be offered at the Chestnuthill Park Building in Brodheadsville on Saturday, Sept. 17.
It is only for those who can present evidence of having taken the eight-hour course within the last 36 months.
