School lunches
Due to a federal mandate, the Tamaqua Area School District has raised the price of a school lunch for the 2011-2012 school year. As of Aug. 30, the cost of a school lunch will be $2.30 at the senior high and middle schools, and $2.05 at the district's three elementary schools.

Senior citizens
The Tamaqua Seniors met Aug. 11 at the West Penn Rod and Gun Club for an annual picnic. The 82 members in attendance enjoyed a meal catered by Christy Joy.
The afternoon included a Chinese auction, card playing and bingo.
The group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the community center. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. Every meeting is followed by social and pinochle games.
South Ward
The South Ward Neighborhood Committee will meet Aug. 18, at 7 p.m., in the South Ward Community Center, at the South Ward Playground. The public is welcome to attend.
St. Peter's Union
The Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. Summer Sunday school will be held at 10:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the church board will meet at 10:45 a.m.
The Called to Care group will meet Tuesday, at 7 p.m.
Cross country
The Tamaqua Blue Raider Cross Country Boosters will meet today, at 6:30 p.m., on the steps of the Tamaqua Senior High School.
