September 3, 1988 Northwestern's defense forces six turnovers, including four interceptions, to lead the way to a 12-2 over Hamburg in its season opener. Jason Hlavac picks off two passes while Joe Fatzinger and John DiCataldo each come up with one. Fatzinger also opens the scoring with a 14-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. The Tigers, coached by Bob Mitchell, add a DiCataldo one-yard plunge in the fourth frame.
