Prothonotary's report
A total of 364 cases were started in August in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of the cases is as follows:
Civil actions, 46; custody complaints, 23; district justice appeals, 12; divorce complaints, 10; ejectment, 2; license appeal, 1; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 13; protection from abuse petitions, 23; quiet title actions, 2; judgments, 226; miscellaneous cases, 2; paternity suit, 1; stipulations/waivers of liens, 2; and writ of execution, 1. The office staff also received and processed 76 applications for U.S. Passports.
Behrens' financial report shows that $30,599.05 was generated last month as follows: prothonotary's fees, $24,906.76; interest income, $6.19; custody fees, $550; and data processing fees, $5,136.10.
The prothonotary also remitted $3,180.24 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $78 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $1,450.50 was deposited in the Prothonotary's Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
