Arrest made in postal money order thefts
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania reported a New Jersey resident has been indicted by a federal grand jury sitting in Scranton.
Elvin R. Caballero, 31, of South River, has been charged with two counts of stealing and converting to his own use blank money order forms under the authority of the Postal Service. The alleged crimes occurred in May in Carbon and Lackawanna counties.
U.S. Attorney Peter J. Smith noted that if convicted of all charges, Caballero faces up to 10 years in jail and/or a fine of $500,000.
The case was investigated by special agents of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, state police and the Olyphant, Lackawanna County, police. Prosecution of the case has been assigned to U.S. Attorney John Gurganus.
