Accident probe leads to arrest
An investigation of an accident by members of the Pocono Mountain Regional police led to an arrest for an outstanding warrant.
Police said about 4:29 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2, officers were dispatched to a crash on SR196 near the Domino's Pizza shop.
The investigation revealed that Corey Gibbs, 21, of South Sterling, Wayne County, was operating a Ford Focus northbound when he rear-ended a Nissan Cube driven by Mary Sommers, 46, of Tobyhanna.
Sommers and a juvenile passenger were injured and taken to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. Both vehicles had heavy damage and had to be towed.
A check revealed that Gibbs was wanted by the U.S. Department of the Army for desertion. He was taken into custody and placed in the county prison pending extradition to Kentucky.
