Flood buckets

According to the Mission Committee at Effort UMC, the supply of flood buckets is very low due to the recent flooding in the northern tier of Pennsylvania.

Anyone wishing to help with that project can bring items, like 12- to 16-ounce bottles of liquid household cleaner, 6- to 14-ounce cans of insect repellent spray, sponges, handiwipes, scrub brushes, 50-count package of clothespins, 50-foot clothesline, heavy duty trash bags, dust masks, disposable kitchen gloves and work gloves, to the church during regular office hours. Western Pocono Lions

Several Western Pocono Lions club members attended the District 14U Lions Rally held Sunday. Among them club president Charles Rush and his wife Lion Joanne; Chris Sweeney, PCC; IPDG Bob Kelsey; PDG Bob Argot, and his wife, who is also a member of the Western Pocono Lioness Club. In addition Lion/Lioness Rita Sweeney, also a member of the Western Pocono Lioness also attended.

As part of an International Lions Club project, two Western Pocono Lions club members, club President Charles Rush and Lion Jeff Hinton, planted a tree at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville. More plantings will be done at other West End municipalities.

PVEN Board

The board of directors for the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network will meet at 9 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 6, at Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville.

Business meeting

West End Rotary Club will hold its monthly business meeting when the group gathers Thursday, Oct. 6, at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville.

The Rotary District Governor will be the special guest at the next meeting, Thursday, Oct.13, 7:30 a.m.

Band parents

PV Band Parents will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 6, at the high school in Brodheadsville.

Community festival

A free Fall Festival Community Day will be hosted by Mount Eaton Church in Saylorsburg, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 8.

Pet blessing

Zion Lutheran's Animal Blessing will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 9, weather permitting.

All animals and pets are welcome and must be appropriately caged or leashed.

Cheer baskets

Effort UMC's United Methodist Women will meet at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 10, at the church. The program will be Cheer Baskets. Anyone participating may bring items that will bring sunshine into the lives of those who are unable to attend church. These items can be anything from toiletries to note cards to small gifts.

All UMW meetings begin with devotions and end with a time of refreshments and fellowship.

All Sports Club

The Pleasant Valley All Sports Club will meet at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 10, in the high school library.

Lioness Fall Rally

Members of the Western Pocono Lioness Club will travel to the Lioness Fall Rally being held at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 13, in Lehighton.

Flu shots

The Chestnuthill Senior Center at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville will offer flu shots from 9 a.m. to noon, Friday, Oct. 14. The cost for seniors varies depending on insurance.

Youth speaker

Dawn Lee, a junior in high school, addressed the Effort UMC congregation this past Sunday as part of the church's new ministry, Grounded in Generosity, Prayer and Faith.

Her words reflected on the value and meaning of the Pocono PANDA Youth Group and what it has done.

New Member Night

The GFWC Western Pocono Women's Club extends an invitation to ladies of the West End community to attend the club's New Member Night on Monday, Oct. 17, at Effort United Methodist Church. The covered dish dinner and entertaining evening begins at 6 p.m.

The program will feature Eugene Hamilton, whose presentation will be on Influential Women.

The club regularly meets at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of the month at the Effort United Methodist Church during the months of March through December.

Welcome extended

Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville has a Knit & Crochet group. Members make helmet liners, preemie caps, baby blankets, chemo caps, and prayer shawls.

The group's next meeting is at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct.11. New members are welcome.

Pink Light Walk

West End Happenings is hosting the annual Pink Light Walk in the West End on Thursday, Oct. 20, beginning at the American Legion at 6 p.m.
