Not manna from heaven

Published October 29. 2011 09:01AM

Dear Editor:

Last week I read in the TIMES NEWS that the Panther Valley School District was applying for a $1 million grant to install solar heating. The project was estimated to cost $3.5 million and projected to save the school district $630,000 over 20 years.

If that is correct, doesn't that mean that in reality it's not going to save the tax payers anything at all and in fact it will cost about $370,000 more over 20 years.

If they are only saving $620,000 after the million dollar grant, they seem to forget that grants from the state cost tax payers too.

It's time to wake up and make politicians realize that grants from the state are just taxes from us, residents of the state, not manna from heaven.

Sincerely,

John Meier,
