The Preceptor Alpha Upsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority held its Halloween Secret Sister party at the home of Pat Kibbler. The hostess presented a program about the traditions of Halloween.
Wanda Keefer and Diane Pruett were named winners of the pumpkin decorating contest.
During the business session, members discussed the Oct. 29 dinner theatre event at Park View Inn, Summit Hill, and finalized plans for sending cookies to troops in Afghanistan. The cookies will be shipped following the Nov. 30 meeting. The Thanksgiving-themed visit to the Geriatric Center at St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital in Coaldale was scheduled for Nov. 9, beginning at 6 p.m.
Senior citizens
The Tamaqua Seniors met Nov. 3 at the Tamaqua Community Center with 79 members in attendance. Treasurer Dolores Walck conducted the business session and provided an inspirational reading.
Rose Valle provided the invocation, entitled "Another Day."
Secretary Joan Ann Garber provided her weekly report. A moment of silence was held in memory of former president, Jean Yanick.
The group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the community center. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.
Every meeting is followed by social and pinochle games.
SS. Peter and Paul
The Senior Choir of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church rehearses Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
The parish Holy Name Society will meet Thursday, at 8 p.m., The meeting will be preceded by Mass at 7:30 p.m.
Class of 1962
The reunion committee for the Tamaqua Class of 1962 is seeking current addresses for three "missing" class members Carol Miller, Beverly Rice King and Carol Shellhamer Fredericks.

Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. Traditional and 10:30 a.m. Contemporary worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care is provided. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.
Also on Sunday, PLWG will meet at 11:45 a.m.
Activities for next week will include: Monday, CareNet Steering Committee will meet at 7:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Prayer time at 8:30 a.m., Tamaqua Youth Ministry and GriefShare will both meet at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, Men's Fraternity will meet at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, musician rehearsal at 9 a.m., Praise practice at 9:30 a.m.; and quilters will meet at 10:30 a.m..
Veterans Day
A flag-raising ceremony in honor of Veterans' Day will be held at 7:25 a.m., Nov. 11, in front of the Tamaqua Area Senior High School.
The public is welcome to attend.
