Truck traffic

Published November 12. 2011 09:01AM

Dear Editor:

I read with great interest about the destruction that truck traffic is causing on the Ninth Street bridge in Lehighton. I am sure when the bridge was constructed the engineers did not imagine an 80,000 pound, tractor and payload crossing the bridge.

Nor did the borough council imagine that volume of traffic from the freight terminal traveling in a school zone or a hospital corridor. However, now the taxpayers are faced with an upgrade to the bridge because of the volume of terminal traffic.

The alternative is not to use Bridge Street to access the freight terminal. Doyle Heffley, how about moving the terminal as a solution.

Or have a separate road from 209 directly into the terminal paid for not by the taxpayers but the freight terminal. The taxpayers in our community should not always have the burden to resolve the cost issue of companies.
