Published November 25. 2011 05:01PM

Raphael A. Marchalonis, 53, of Port Carbon, was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 7:45 p.m. Nov. 22 on Route 61 in North Manheim Township, according to state police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks.

Police said he was transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center East, Pottsville. The severity of his injuries were not known, police said.

He was the driver of a 1997 Ford Taurus that was southbound on Rt. 61 in the area of the Stoner Tile jughandle entrance when the vehicle came upon a large chunk of cardboard in his lane of travel. Police said he swerved to avoid striking the object, causing him to lose control of the Taurus on the rain-soaked highway.

The vehicle spun 85 degrees counter-clockwise and slid across the passing lane before impacting the center jersey barrier, coming to rest across both southbound lanes.

The vehicle was towed from the scene.
