Mass schedule

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church has announced the following concerning the Mass schedule for The Solemnity of Mary, The Holy Mother of God. Mass will be held Saturday, Dec. 31, at 5 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 1, at 8 and 10:30 a.m. and at noon.

The church office will be closed on Friday, Jan. 6.

Chestnuthill PTO

The Chestnuthill School PTO is slated to meet on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

UW Agency

The Garden of Giving, based in McMichaels, has received notice that it has been approved for eligibility and is now considered a United Way of Monroe County Partner Agency.

This means the entity can now participate in United Way's annual fund distribution process, along with all United Way Partner Agencies, in the spring. This does not guarantee any funding; this allows submission of application along with all other partner agencies. These applications are then reviewed by community volunteers, who make the funding decisions based on United Way's total allocable dollars from the 2011 Campaign.

Lioness meeting

The Western Pocono Lioness Club is back to meeting on its regular night after two months of meeting one week early due to the two holidays just past. The group will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 24, the fourth Tuesday of the month, beginning at 6 o'clock with a soup, salad, bread and dessert time.

The business meeting will begin at 7 p.m. A speaker, yet to be announced, will be featured.

150 years ahead

Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville will be holding its 150th annual meeting on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012.

That day there will only be one worship service, at 10 a.m. Sunday School will meet at 9 a.m.

New staff

The Pregnancy Resource of the Poconos has announced the retirement of Mary Ellen Bingman. She will be followed by Susan Perez as center director.

Blood pressure screenings

The Chestnuthill Senior Center, meeting at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville, will host its next blood pressure screening on Wednesday, Jan. 11.

On that date also, Chris Brecht will present a Germ Away program at 11:15 a.m.

Fly fishing

Chestnuthill residents can sign up for fly fishing permits for the McMichael Creek at the township building.

FBLA Success

On Dec. 20, high school students from across the region participated in the FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) competition. Unlocking their talents and ability on the competition, 35 Pleasant Valley students scored high enough to qualify for the state competition in April.
