Close call at Five Points
Dear Editor:
This letter was suggested by Tamaqua Police Department Personnel, who said that I should write this letter to make people aware of a problem at the Five Points in Tamaqua after I told them how I was almost hit 5 or 6 times by a vehicle. This happened at the Five Points intersection in the past two months in Tamaqua.
The last time was on Thursday about 11:30 a.m. I was crossing from the west side of Center Street when I got the red light. I made two steps out when , all of a sudden, someone grabbed me and pulled me back.. I turned around and a man said he thought I was going to be hit by a car. I said to him, we had the red light."
The other times were all at the same place, always between 11 and 11:30 a.m. Three times cars were coming down Railroad Street, two of them passing a car stopped for the light. The other two were making a turn off Broad Street to Center Street - one making a right turn, the other a left turn. The one making a left stopped and I waved for him to go by. He pulled up to me ans stopped. He turned his window down and to my surprise, it was a state trooper. This is exactly what he said to me, "Mister, you have the right of way. You have the red light. That is the state law."
There you have it. The police said this letter might show all the drivers what the law is.
