N'western, Marian both get two wins

Northwestern and Marian scored wins in both baseball and softball on Monday afternoon

In other action, Northern Lehigh kept its baseball streak intact, Tamaqua's softball team was victorious and Palmerton won its first girls soccer match of the season.

BASEBALL

Moravian Acad.-Marian

The Colts exploded for 14 runs in the third inning and took a 15-0 win over the Lions in a game called after three innings by the 15-run rule.

J.T. Keer had a big ay at the plate for the Colts (1-1) going three-for-three with a solo homer in the first, a single, triple and two RBI. Ryan Gimbi had a double and single and drove in two runs, Dillon Lathan and Ron Kosar each had two hits and two RBI, Zach Motil had two hits and one RBI and Mark Stawick drove in a run with a triple for the winners.

Corey Riba went the distance to pick up the win.

Wilson-Northwestern

Ty Cunningham drove in the eventual game-winning run in the sixth inning as the Tigers slipped past the Warriors 4-3 in Colonial League play.

Cunningham had two hits, a stolen base and drove in two runs. Tim Schaeffer hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning and also walked.

Nils Lawson had a hit and two RBI for the Warriors.

Sawyer Smith was the winning pitcher, while Izarek suffered the loss.

Palisades-No. Lehigh

The Bulldogs picked up their fourth win without a loss as they scored a 3-2 win over the Pirates.

Kyle Schomp was two-for-three with a solo homer in the third inning for the Bulldogs. Dylan Bolton had a double, single and scored a run.

Jake Kern was the winning pitcher, while Eric Snyder came in to get the save.

Schuylkill Haven-Jim Thorpe

Three Hurricane pitchers combined to throw a perfect game and shut out Jim Thorpe, 18-0 in four innings of play.

Phill Dohner, Shane Berger and Collin McGee each took the mound and totaled eight strikeouts between them.

Shenandoah Valley started off strong and never looked back to score a 11-4 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly.

The Blue Devils' Tyler Craig led all hitters with a 4-for-5 performance, which included a double and three RBI. Teammate Blaise Breslosky added a single and a double.

Dominic Palermo paced the Wreckers (0-2, 0-2) with two singles and two RBI, while Brett Stallone and Kevin Hinkle also finished with multiple hits.

SOFTBALL

Wilson-Northwestern

The Tigers jumped out to an early lead scoring 13 runs over the first three innings and took a 13-7 Colonial League win over the Warriors.

Lauren Horner went three-for-five and Blaise Barron had two hits and scored three runs for the Tigers. Brooke Heller, Tori Papp and Felicia Heckman all added two hits.

Michael Morninghoff had a double ad triple and Jaclyn Badman had two hits and scored two runs for the Pirates.

Papp was the winning pitcher, while Jessica Mette took the loss.

Moravian Acad.-Marian

The Fillies used two big innings to take an easy 10-1 non-league win over the Lions.

Nina Curran had three hits and five RBI for the Fillies, while Kayla Knight added a single, double and RBI. Ginger Howe had a single and drove in a run and Gabby Cann had the other Marian hit.

Alexa Nemeth was the winning pitcher, striking out nine.

Schuylkill Haven scored 10 runs in the sixth inning and ran away from Jim Thorpe, 19-1 in six innings.

Kayla Moore led the Hurricanes with a triple and two RBI.

The Olympians' only hit was collected by Lauren Rich, who finished the day 1-for-3.

Palisades-No. Lehigh

Northern Lehigh (2-2, 1-2) scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings, but allowed Palisades to rally with four runs in the eighth giving the Pirates a 11-9 in Colonial League play.

The Bulldogs' Erika Bowman delivered with a two-out bases loaded triple in the bottom of the seventh. Teammates Kristi Seiler and Amber Kibler each chipped in with two hits and two RBI.

The Pirates scored four runs on three hits and one error in the top of the eighth to retake the lead and eventually win.

Panther Valley-Tamaqua

Tamaqua scored at least two runs in each inning and went on to beat the Panthers, 13-0 in five innings.

The Blue Raiders were paced by Jordan Nowacki's three RBI. She went deep in the second inning. Teammate Amy Zehner also belted a homer to right-center in the fourth. She finished with two RBI.

Kristyn Gates and Krista Knepper had the only hits for the Panthers.

The Olympians picked up a win in singles, but dropped a 4-1 decision to the Cardinals.

James Denny notched the win by scores of 6-2, 6-4 over Matt D'Aversa.

With the loss, Jim Thorpe dropped to 1-6.

Five different players scored for the Crusaders as they knocked off the Bulldogs, 5-1 in a Colonial League contest.

Emily Stocker and Jamie Dearie led the Crusaders with a goal and an assist each, while Shannon Moran, Alexis Cabone and Mary Kate Elward added a goal each.

Nicole Tzarnecki scored the Bulldogs' lone goal.

NL's keeper Kaylee Owens finished with 10 saves, while ND's Erin Grube grabbed four.

Northern Lehigh falls to 0-4 overall on the season, while Notre Dame moves to 3-4.

N'western-Palisades

Alyson Moron scored a goal in the first half and it stood up for a 1-0 win over the Tigers.

Northern Lehigh cruised to a 17-7 Colonial League win over visiting Palisades.

The Bulldogs' Janelle Kern scored the win on the mound behind 13 strikeouts.
