Pocono arrests
Pocono Mountain Regional police reported on the following arrests made by officers.
On Dec. 30 about 6:11 p.m. officers were on patrol in Mt. Pocono when they observed a vehicle failing to stop for a red traffic signal along SR940. A vehicle stop was conducted and the driver was identified as James D. Van Sant, 47, of Pocono Pines.
Upon further investigation officers learned there was an active warrant for Van Sant's arrest out of Florida for 38 counts of forgery and two counts of auto theft. He was taken into custody and placed in the county prison in Snydersville pending extradition back to Florida.
On Sunday, Jan. 2, officers received an active felony warrant for John Shubert, 59, of 33 Pocono Blvd., in Mt. Pocono. Police said in December Shubert was involved in an incident where he gained access to a motel room at the Mt. Pocono Motel.
Shubert was using the room in the late hours of the night without permission of the motel owner, police said. Shubert was located at the Copa Bar and Grille in Mt. Pocono where he was taken into custody.
He was arraigned before a district judge and released with a court date of Jan. 7 set.
