Crash involves police cruiser

Published January 10. 2011 05:00PM

State police at Lehighton reported investigating a two vehicle crash at the intersection of state routes 209 and 903 in Jim Thorpe, involving a borough police car.

Troopers said Janice L. Wasilkowski, 54, of Walnutport, was driving a 1999 Mercury Sable southbound on 209 and entering the intersection when she failed to observe that the traffic light was red. Her vehicle side-swiped a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria police car driven by Jamie G. Solomon, 51, of Jim Thorpe. The light was green for Solomon. Troopers said Wasilkowski's view might have been obstructed by sun glare. Solomon sustained a minor injury in the crash but did not require medical attention. Troopers cited Wasilkowski for limited access highway entrances and exits.

Troopers also probed a crash about 3:58 p.m. on Jan. 6 along SR209 at the intersection with Sei Pike Lane, in Towamensing Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Rosanna Riggio, 18, of Lehighton, was stopped in the northbound lane waiting for southbound traffic to clear when her 2006 Chrysler Town & Country was struck in the rear by a 1998 Subaru Impreza driven by Michael E. Ubbens, 24, of Saylorsburg.

A passenger with Riggio, Tyler Riggio, 13, of Lehighton, was injured and taken to the Palmerton Hospital for treatment.

Troopers cited Ubbens for following too closely.
