Crashes probed by Lehighton SP

State police at Lehighton reported on several crashes investigated by troopers in recent days.

A one-vehicle crash occurred on Wednesday, Jan. 12, no time listed, along SR115 in Ross Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Louis Nemeth, 75, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 1998 Dodge Ram truck southbound in the area of Ross Commons when the truck went onto the berm where the front passenger side bumper and axle struck a large tree.

Nemeth was injured and flown by PennStar helicopter to St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill. He was cited for driving too fast for conditions, troopers said.

A one vehicle crash occurred on Tuesday, Jan. 11, no time given, along SR209 in Towamensing Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Jean K. Slack, 42, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2009 Toyota when she reached for her MP3 player and accidentally pushed the gas pedal causing her to lose control. The vehicle went off the right side of the road and struck a large cement barrier. Troopers did not indicate if she was injured.

Slack was cited for roadways laned for traffic.

A two vehicle accident was reported on Monday, Jan. 10, about 6:35 p.m. along SR115 in Ross Township. Troopers said Eric M. Fisher, 21, of Stroudsburg, was driving a 1996 Honda Civic northbound when Kevin J. Scaggs II, 21, of Sciota, driving a 2000 Volkswagen GTI, attempted to pass on the right shoulder. During the passing movement, the Volkswagen sideswiped the Honda causing minor damages to both vehicles.

No one was injured. Troopers said Scaggs fled the scene but was later located. He will be cited, troopers added.

A one vehicle crash was reported on Jan. 8 about 9:45 p.m. along Greenhill Road, in Polk Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Garam Choe, 22, of Bayside, N.Y., was driving a 2009 Acura RDX northbound and approaching a left curve. Choe lost control on the snow-covered road and her vehicle traveled down an embankment striking several boulders.

Choe and passenger Ana Nam, 21, of Bethlehem, were not injured. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

Troopers also reported on an incident that occurred about 7:54 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12, along the turnpike in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Gregory T. Adams, 31, of Lehighton, reported he was driving a 2011 Lexus when snow fell from the trailer portion of a tractor-trailer rig and struck the vehicle causing minor damages. The rig driver did not stop, troopers said. Adams was not injured in the incident.
