Monroe crashes
State police at Fern Ridge reported on several crashes probed by troopers, all occurring in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County.
A deer crashed into a state police cruiser about 4:13 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15, along SR115, troopers said. Trooper George E. Kerrick, 40, of Blakeslee, was driving a 2008 Ford Crown Victoria southbound near the West End Fire Company when the deer entered the road and crossed the northbound lane and struck the driver's side door. Upon impact the deer was killed. Kerrick was not injured. Damages to the cruiser included a broken windshield, damaged left mirror and dents to the driver's side front and rear doors.
A one vehicle crash occurred about 1:01 p.m. on Jan. 11 along Burger Hollow Road. Troopers said Shaun V. Werle, 16, of Effort, was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Malibu southbound while another driver was stopped attempting to enter the road. Werle swerved to avoid a collision. His vehicle began to rotate counter-clockwise 90 degrees and then entered the northbound lane and continued onto the east berm where it struck a telephone pole with the passenger side rear door. The car then rotated 180 degrees clockwise and struck a tree with the driver's side rear, where it came to rest against the tree.
Werle and passengers Dylan R. Werle, 16, and Roberto Santoro Jr., 17, both of Effort, were not injured. Another passenger, Brandon E. Cruz, 18, of Brodheadsville, was injured and taken to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, by West End ambulance.
A crash occurred about 3:57 p.m. on Saturday along SR209. Troopers said Stephen W. Bates, 21, of Blakeslee, and Michael J. Lindner, 46, of Kunkletown, were both southbound. Lindner stopped for traffic ahead of him and Bates failed to see him stopping. The front of Bates' 1993 Ford Probe hit the rear of Lindner's 2002 Chevrolet Blazer.
Two passengers with Lindner, Victoria R. Lindner, 11, and Isabella J. Lindner, 7, both of Kunkletown, sustained minor injuries and were taken by West End ambulance to the PMC. The two drivers were not injured.
Troopers cited Bates for following too closely.
