Colts top Mahanoy in D-3 showdown
The Marian boys and the Jim Thorpe and Pleasant Valley girls picked up victories on the hardwood on Monday night.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Marian-Mahanoy Area
Chris Barletta had a huge game to lead Marian to a 55-44 victory Mahanoy Area in a showdown between the top teams in Division 3 of the Schuylkill League.
The Colts and Golden Bears came into the contest tied for the Division lead with identical 8-2 league records.
Barletta had a triple-double as he tallied a game-high 24 points to go along with his 10 rebounds and 10 assists.
The Colts also got big games from Dominick Richards and Ryan Gimbi, who added 14 and 12 points respectively.
Marian is now 15-4 (9-2) on the year.

The Spartans opened up an 18-point halftime lead then Jacob Rakowsky took over from there to score all 11 of his points in the second half in a 51-38 win over the Panthers.
Brandon McCloskey scored 14 to lead the Spartans, while Tyler Skinner and John Chernewski added 10 apiece.
Nick McArdle led the Panthers with 17 points, while Zach Stanko added 11.

Jim Thorpe connected on 21-of-26 free throw attempts, including 12-of-16 in the fourth quarter, and won on to defeat Minersville 59-39.
Celeste Robinson led the locals with a game-high 27 points. Teammate Kristin Lawrence added 16 off of four three-pointers.

Tamaqua was led by Brett Kosciolek's 10 points. Zach Wargula followed with eight points.
