A Carbon County man is facing charges in Colorado.

State police at Lehighton said Louis Handwerk Smith, 48, of Lehighton, turned himself in at the office of District Judge Bruce Appleton, of Palmerton, on Feb. 3 at 2 p.m. after he was notified of an active warrant for his arrest out of Adam's County Sheriff's Department in Colorado.

Smith is facing charges of internet sexual exploitation of a child and criminal attempt to commit sexual exploitation of children.

He was arraigned on the fugitive warrant and released after posting 10 percent of $100,000 bail set by Appleton. He now faces an extradition hearing in the Carbon County court at a later date, troopers added.
