Pleasant Valley girls edge Stroudsburg

Pleasant Valley and Stroudsburg split a boys/girls doubleheader on Friday night. The Lady Bears picked up a tight win while the Mountaineer boys pulled away for a double digit victory.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Stroudsburg-

Pleasant Vy.

Pleasant Valley closed the regular season with a thrilling 41-38 Mountain Valley Conference victory over Stroudsburg.

Kelicia Harris sparked the Bears' attack with 14 points. Kasey Meckes added 13 points, six of them in the fourth quarter.

The Mounties' Sarah Borden tied Harris for a game-high honors with 14 points.

Pleasant Valley heads into next week's MVC playoffs with a record of 16-6 overall and 10-2 in the conference.

Pine Grove used a 27-point second quarter to overcome an early deficit and post a 60-33 Schuylkill League Division I win over Panther Valley.

The Cardinals' Kaylin Ryan netted 14 of her game-high 19 points in the second quarter.

Mary Jane Thomas recorded seven of her team-high 12 points in the first quarter for the Panthers, who held a 15-14 lead at the end of the opening period.

Panther Valley slips to 3-17 overall and 0-12 in the league.

Northwestern-

Catasauqua

Catasauqua finished as strong as it started to roll to a 64-48 Colonial League win over visiting Northwestern.

The Roughies' Joe Thieme had a game-high 15 points.

Andrew Rivera led the Tigers with 10 points.

Northwestern finished its season with a record of 1-21 overall and 0-16 in the league.

Northwestern posted a 52-49 win in the JV game.

Four different players netted double figures as Stroudsburg posted a 60-48 Mountain Valley Conference victory over Pleasant Valley.

Kai Ahmed paced the Mounties with 13 points.

The Bears' Mike Sharpe led all scorers with a game-high 18 points. Nick Stanovick chipped in 11 points.

Pleasant Valley's record is now 11-10 overall and 6-6 in MVC play. The Bears travel to Liberty today for their regular season finale.

In the JV game, Stroudsburg earned a 64-54 win.

9th GRADE

Tamaqua-Lehighton

Tamaqua posted a 57-42 win over Lehighton.

The Blue Raiders' Adam Bates netted a game-high 16 points while Brett Kosciolek chipped in with 12 points.

For the Indians, Tom Rzicko and Tyler Crum led the way with 15 and 10 points respectively..

Tamaqua finishes its season with an overall record of 17-4.

8th GRADE

Tamaqua-Lehighton

Tamaqua capped an undefeated season with a 58-8 win over Lehighton.

Zach Wargula led the Blue Raiders (22-0) with a 14-point performance. Brett Kosciolek followed with 11 points.

The Tamaqua eighth graders have now won 37 consecutive games over the past two years. The team finished 15-0 as seventh graders.

7th GRADE

Tamaqua-Lehighton

Tamaqua rolled to a 56-26 victory over Lehighton.

The Blue Raiders were led by Zach Coleman's 19 points. Russell Blaker added 14 points and Matt Minchhoff chipped in eight.

Zwetolitz had 17 points for Lehighton.
