Scout Sunday
Scouts were present at the 10:30 a.m. service at Effort UMC. The church hosts Pack, Troop and Crew 99.
At St. Peter's UMC in Saylorsburg, Troop 109 was scheduled to participate in the service.
Some churches celebrated Scout Sunday on Feb. 6.
Zion Seniors
The next meeting of the Zion Senior Citizens is set for 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 17. Part of the meeting will be focus on Valentine's Day and its history.
Shoeboxes sent
The Mission Committee of Effort United Methodist reports that for the 2010 Operation Christmas Child project, 141 shoeboxes were filled with gifts and sent to children in Haiti, Peru and Zambia.
Lions travel
Six Members of the Western Pocono Lions Club traveled to the District 14U Cabinet meeting held Sunday in Coaldale. Representing the local club and the district was District Governor Bob Kelsey, Lions Charles and Joanne Rush, Cabinet Secretary Bob Argot and his wife, and Past Council Chair Chris Sweeney and his wife, Rita, a Stroudsburg Lions Club member.
The club will meet at Ye Olde Saylors Inn for a regular club meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 16, with the social hour beginning at 6:30 p.m. Information about Lions Clubs International Foundation will be the topic of the evening's program.
Monroe Seniors
Monroe Seniors meet for lunch and fun on Wednesdays and Fridays at Zion Lutheran Church Hall in Brodheadsville. Those gatherings begin at 9 a.m.
Upcoming gatherings are Feb. 18, Feb. 23 and Feb. 25.
Jesus Day
Our Lady Queen of Peace had to postpone its scheduled Jesus Day. It has been reset for 9:30 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Feb. 19. Children in grades 1-3 are invited to join a look of what it might have been like for Jesus when he was a boy.

Altar & Rosary
Our Lady of Queen of Peace Altar & Rosary Society will meet at 3:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 21, in McCawley Hall.
Knit & Crochet
The Knit & Crochet group at Zion Lutheran Church will meet at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 22 at Zion Lutheran Church. Those plying crochet needles are making Christmas ornaments for the church while those using knitting needles are making helmet liners for folks in the military.
Lioness meet
The Western Pocono Lioness will meet at 7 p.m., Feb. 22, at the American Legion on Route 209 in Gilbert (weather permitting). The club extends the invitation to anyone who is interested in serving the community to come and attend a meeting to see what the club is about.
Refreshments will be served. The speaker will be announced.

West End Rotary
On Feb. 24, the West End Rotary will host Olivia Ecke, who will present her audition monologue for Lehigh Valley School of the Performing Arts.
The club meets at 7:30 a.m. at the Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville, every Thursday except the third Thursday of the month when it meets at 7 p.m. at Ye Olde Saylors Inn in Saylorsburg.
Bowl for Kids
The Annual Bowl for Kids Sake, a benefit Monroe's Big Brothers Big Sisters program, is set for Saturday, March 26.
