Published February 21. 2011 05:01PM

A driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 2:35 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 20, along Pohopoco Drive, near Betty Lane, in Towamensing Township, Carbon County.

State police at Lehighton said Mark J. Bittenbender, 31, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 2003 Mazda Tribute westbound when he lost control. The car crossed into the eastbound lane and continued southwest off the shoulder and struck a tree. Upon impact the car then spun counter-clockwise about 270 degrees and continued west. The car then overturned and rolled twice before coming to rest in the eastbound lane on its passenger side.

Bittenbender, who sustained a minor injury, was found to be under the influence and was taken to the Palmerton hospital for a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results.
