March 9, 1954 Bill Gmitter tallies a game-high 17 points to help lead St. Joseph's of East Mauch Chunk to a 41-30 comeback victory over SS Peter and Paul of Lansford. The win gives St. Joe's, co-coached by Mickey Hodor and Walter "Smokey" Moser, the championship of the Panther Valley CYO League. The winners, who use a 32-17 spread in the second half to claim the title, also receive nine points from Joe Duffy and seven from Joe Engler.
