Rotary speakers

The West End Rotary Club will host the following speakers in the next two weeks.

Joseph McDonald, candidate for judge, Court of Common Pleas, will speak on Thursday, April 28; Sheriff Todd Martin, Pam Formica and Maida Malone, will speak about the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society on Thursday, May 5.

Four new members recently joined the club. Inducted by President Karin Breitlauch were: Janet Fisher, service/sales heating and air conditioning; Brandie Belanger, attorney; David O'Neill, marketing consultant; and Ed Gallagher, computer technician.

Monroe seniors

Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, will host the Monroe County Seniors on Friday, April 29, at 9 a.m. Meetings are held in the church social hall.

PIC cleanup

Chestnuthill (PIC) will hold a litter cleanup April 30, weather permitting. Call Chestnuthill Township at (570) 992-7247 for the time.

30-Hour Famine

The Youth Group at Effort United Methodist will participate in a 30-hour famine beginning at 6 p.m., Friday, April 29, and ending Sunday, May 1, at noon.

The youth will be going without food during this whole time to help bring awareness to hunger not only here, but throughout the world.

Rescheduled egg hunt

Last Saturday's rained-out egg hunt at the Haney-VanBuskirk Park in Saylorsburg has been rescheduled to this Saturday, April 30, at 1 p.m.

Cleanup Day

The board of trustees of Effort UMC is hosting a cleanup day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 30, to help with overall work at the church.

There are variety of things to be done, inside and out, from cleaning to helping with flower beds to assisting with repairs on the building.

Parishioners and friends of the congregation are invited to bring rakes, shovels, gloves, elbow grease and other tools to help.

May Friendship Day

Church Women United of Monroe County is celebrating May Friendship Day on Friday, May 6, with a 10:45 a.m. service at Pocono Lake United Methodist Church on Rt. 940. Lunch will follow the service.

Food drive set

The mail carriers' food drive will be held on Saturday, May 7.

Please check with your respective post office to see if staff there are participating.

Help needed

Friends of West End Park and Open Space Commission (WEPOSC) has committee member positions available, including fundraising and trails subcommittee, which does trail layout and builds the many miles of trails planned for the park.

Meetings are held at 6 p.m., the second Wednesday of each month at the Ross Township Municipal Building on Anchorage Road Saylorsburg.

Kids Against Hunger

Volunteers are needed to help package food for Kids Against Hunger packets at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville, Saturday, May 14, during three times slots. They are: 1:30 to 2 p.m.; 2:30 to 4 p.m.; and 1 to 4 p.m.

One must register ahead of time online at monroecokah@hotmail.com or by calling the Zion United Lutheran Church office at (570) 992-6988.

Many hands make light work, say organizers.
