Road cleanup

Pride in Chestnuthill (PIC) will have another roadside cleanup day May 28, weather permitting. Check with Chestnuthill Township at (570) 992-7247 for other dates and times.

Members of the community are welcome to join the group and help keep the township clean and green.

Help is needed as PIC is a small volunteer group made up mostly of senior citizens, who have been cleaning up and beautifying the township for over 10 years.

The Pleasant Valley Board of Education is scheduled to meet at 8 p.m., Thursday, May 26, at the district offices in Brodheadsville.

Bishop coming

On Sunday, May 29, Effort UMC will have only one service due to Bishop Peggy Johnson visiting and preaching at the church.

A covered dish luncheon will be served after the worship service.

Members and friends are invited to bring their favorite dish to share at the luncheon.

Mass offered

Helping others

The Effort UMC Supplemental Family Food Resource Center received a gift of $100 from the Penn-Kidder Lions Club Saturday.

The check was presented by club President Manny DaCosta, Lehighton, to retired pastor Bob Argot, filling in for the Rev. Robin Fisher who was at the annual church conference along with the church's lay delegate Bob Decker.

DaCosta made similar presentations to St. Peter the Fisherman Church of Lake Harmony and Christ Lutheran of Jim Thorpe.

Baby time

Visitors from out of the area, and even out of state, headed to Quiet Valley this past weekend to see and touch many baby animals.

Among them a number of piglets with one sow, chickens, a calf, Belgian work horses, and sheep already shorn. And, of course, having the experience of jumping in the hay was the most fun, according to three young visitors from Mechanicsburg.

Quiet Valley will offer a repeat of the Farm Animal Frolic this week end Saturday, May 28, and Sunday, May 29.

Schools closed

In honor of Memorial Day, Pleasant Valley schools will be closed.

Planting postponed

Planting at the Garden of Giving has again been postponed due to the weather.

The new planting dates are June 4 and June 5.
