Lela (Kistler) Hoppes will celebrate her 95th birthday on Monday, Aug. 16.

A native of the area, she was married to the late Robert Hoppes for over 50 years, before his passing in 1992.

They have three children: Ronnie, who resides in Royersford with his wife Betty; Gary, deceased; and Kevin of Mantzville. She lived with Kevin and his wife Cheryl for over three years before moving to the Summit at Blue Mountain, where she now resides.

Lela was employed at several factories in the Tamaqua area as a sewing machine operator. She was also actively involved in Christ Free Church.

She enjoyed several hobbies such as painting ceramics, crocheting and quilting, and has made close to 20 beautiful quilts, with special love and attention put into those given to her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her children, Lela is the proud grandmother of four, with three great-grandchildren.

Her birthday will be spent with family and friends.
