Charged with escape, resisting arrest

A Lehighton man is facing charges of escape and resisting arrest.

Kyle Kubin, 25, of the 200 block of S. Third Street, was apprehended by Mahoning Township police on July 2 at 4:33 p.m.

According to police, they were dispatched to the Wal-Mart store on a report of an out of control male causing a disturbance.

Upon their arrival they learned the individual fled, heading towards McDonald's Restaurant, and he left a female companion behind.

The officers reportedly had the female call the male on his cell phone and requested that he return to Wal-Mart to speak with the officers. He complied. The male returned and while discussing the incident that took place in Wal-Mart, an NCIC check was run on Kubin.

The check revealed that he was a wanted person out of the Carbon County Adult Probation Office for a parole violation.

When Kubin was told that he was under arrest he allegedly fled and a foot pursuit ensued across the Walmart parking lot, across SR443, behind Arby's Restaurant and continued to the wooded area beside the Carbon County Plaza, where the pursuing officer lost sight of him.

Shortly afterward officers learned that Kubin fled to Mahoning Mountain Road where he called a friend to pick him up and drive him out of the area.

About 25 minutes after being picked up, the Weissport police were dispatched to a fight in progress in the borough.

One of the combatants was Kubin. Weissport police arrested Kubin and transported him to Mahoning Township Police headquarters.

Kubin was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and escape. Carbon County Adult Probation and Parole were notified.

Kubin was arraigned before duty District Judge Joseph Homanko, of Weatherly, and was committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.

Township police were assisted by Lehighton, Franklin Township, and Weissport police officers.
