Retail theft arrests

Pocono Mountain Regional police reported on several retail theft arrests made by officers in recent days. Four arrests were made at the Walmart store in Mt. Pocono.

On July 22 about 2:30 p.m. officers were called to the store by store security. Police said Donald Law, 77, of Newfoundland, attempted to conceal $57 worth of merchandise and leave the store without paying for it. He was issued a citation and release.

Also on July 22 about 3:15 p.m. as officers were leaving the store from the first arrest they observed store employees attempting to stop a male suspect. He was identified as Kory Wheeler, 19, of Blakeslee. Police said he left the store with a shopping cart containing $55 worth of merchandise without paying for it. He was cited and later released.

On July 24 about 8:34 p.m. officers were called to the store for an employee in custody for retail theft. The suspect was identified as Sean Steadman, 20, of Alter Ave., Pocono Summit. Police were told by loss prevention personnel that Steadman was observed leaving the store with $294.45 worth of merchandise and made no attempt to pay for it.

He was taken into custody and transported to the county prison pending arraignment on the misdemeanor one count.

On Wednesday, July 28, at 2:30 p.m. officers were called to the store for another theft. Arrested was Mason Moore, 18, of Tobyhanna. Police said he attempted to remove $47 worth of merchandise from the store by hiding the items inside his pants pocket. He was stopped after leaving the store. He was cited and released.

On July 23 about 6:41 p.m. officers were called to the Rite Aid store in the Carriage Square, in Coolbaugh Township. Police said a 15-year-old male juvenile from Tobyhanna attempted to take $148.38 worth of merchandise from the store without paying for it. He was issued a citation and then released to the custody of his mother.

On Tuesday, July 27, police were called to Bill's Shop Rite, in Mt. Pocono, for a person being held by store security for theft. The person was identified as Christina Onorato, 21, of Tobyhanna. She attempted to leave the store with $28.48 worth of merchandise without paying for it. She was cited and released.
