New Jersey man cited in Tamaqua
An Essex County, N.J., man ran out of friends in Tamaqua last Wednesday.
Anthony Charles Chaffman, 36, who moved into a home at 345 E. Union St., Tamaqua, on July 30, wore out his welcome from housemates Susan Whateley, Jennifer Maloney and Christine Oxner, when the trio suspected he was stealing from them.
Borough police were called to the home Aug. 4 at 9:20 p.m. when Chaffman was reportedly banging on the back door, trying to gain entry. Whately, owner of the home, told police Chaffman was not wanted in her home and provided details as to why they suspected him of theft. Officers checked the area and discovered Chaffman sleeping on the back seat of a vehicle in the driveway. Visibly intoxicated, Chaffman was taken to the station and questioned. He was then placed in a cell block for several hours and released at 3 a.m. on Aug. 5.
He was cited for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.
