A Carbon County resident is facing sexual abuse of children charges.

State police at Lehighton said Joseph Woodhull Oliver Jr., 36, of Jim Thorpe, has been charged with six counts of sexual abuse of children, a felony three.

Troopers said Oliver was arrested for possessing child pornography after images of child pornography were found on a computer he had gifted to a friend. The incidents occurred over the period of June 1 to Aug. 31, 2009, according to troopers.

Oliver was arraigned before District Judge Edward Lewis, of Jim Thorpe, and posted 10 percent of $25,000 bail and was released. A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 1 at 2:45 p.m. before Lewis.

The state police criminal investigation's Northeast Pennsylvania Computer Crimes Task Force assisted in the case.
