Vehicle stop leads to criminal charges
A vehicle stop by officers of the Pocono Mountain Regional police has led to the arrest of two on criminal charges.
Police said a vehicle was stopped about 12:50 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 30, along Long Pond Rd., in Tobyhanna Township, for vehicle code violations.
While speaking with the driver, identified as Peter Crosby, 21, of Long Pond, officers detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Two passengers were identified as Aqueel Beyah, 20, and Leonando Balesca, 23, both of Long Pond.
Police said while they were trying to identify the two passengers Beyah told different names to two different officers. Beyah was then taken into custody for false identification to law enforcement after his true name was learned. A vehicle search was conducted and officers found marijuana.
Crosby was taken into custody for driving under the influence (DUI) of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. Balesca was not charged with any offense.
