Homegrown models

Western Pocono Lioness will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 24, at the American Legion on Route 209 in Gilbert. A program by Coldwater Creek, with models from the Lioness Club, will be the evening's feature.

Refreshments will be served.

For more information call Arlene Mullery at (570) 992-5022.

The club grieves the loss of Lioness Betty Ford, who passed away late last week.

The club is thankful for the work from Boy Scout Troop 109 including the leaders. The club needed an advertising board to announce its events. Troop leader Robert Facella and fellow adults as well as Scouts responded and the board was in place in time for the club's flea market held earlier this month. With the help of Troop 109, the event was a huge success.

Team speakers

The West End Rotary Club will meet at 7:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 26, at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville. Members will welcome Jean and Gordon Perry, artist and photographer.

Stream walk

The West End Park & Open Space Commission invites the public to join naturalist Don Miller for a stream walk along the Fall Creek headwaters at 1 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 29.

Participants in this free event are asked to meet at the Chestnuthill Municipal Building on Rt. 715, Brodheadsville.

This McMichael's headwater area is permanently protected through a cooperative agreement among the Pohoqualine Fish Association, Pocono Heritage Land Trust and Chestnuthill and Jackson townships.

School started

This week new teachers in the Pleasant Valley School District will have orientation for two days, followed by all staff heading to PV schools on Thursday. The school board meets at 8 p.m. Thursday in the district office on Route 115.

School starts for students next week.
