St. Paul Lutheran

St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill, is in need of volunteers to help collate the newsletter. The session will take place on Sunday, Aug. 29, beginning at 9:15 a.m.

The worship service that day will take place at 10:30 a.m., during which time a blessing of book bags for all children going to school will take place. The Rev. John Hazel Jr., pastor, will officiate.

On Wednesday, Sept. 1, the congregation will hold a Sunday school planning meeting at the church. Volunteers are needed to teach the sessions. Anyone who can help, including teenagers to seniors, is asked to attend.

Methodist Charge

The schedule for the Coaldale/Summit Hill United Methodist Charge for Sunday, Aug. 22, is as follows:

Worship services will be held at 9 a.m. in the Summit Hill United Methodist Church and at 11 a.m. in the Coaldale United Methodist Church. The Rev. Burgess Gordon, pastor, will officiate at both services.

The adult Sunday school will be held at 10 a.m. in the Coaldale church.

Presbyterian church

The worship service for the Hope of Christ Presbyterian Church, Summit Hill, for Sunday, Aug. 22, will take place at 9:30 a.m., which is a change for the summer season.

The time will be in effect until Sept. 12. During the summer, there will be no junior choir, Sunday school or adult Bible class.

SHCIO plans

The Summit Hill Community Improvement Organization has changed the date of its monthly meeting due to the upcoming Labor Day holiday.

The group will meet on Monday, Aug. 30, at 7 p.m. in the borough building. Persons interested in improving the community are encouraged to attend and present new ideas to the organization.

OLOA schedule

Our Lady of the Angels Academy, Lansford, will hold its first day of classes next week. "Teacher Organization Day" and a faculty retreat were held yesterday in preparation for the 2010-2011 school year. The students will report to open the school year on Monday, Aug. 30.

Crime watch

There will be a Crime Watch meeting in Summit Hill on Monday, Aug. 30 at the Summit Hill Borough Building at 7 p.m. All are invited to attend this meeting.

Nesquehoning

Zion Lutheran Church

Morning worship begins at 9 a.m. Sunday. Blessing of book bags will be held this week. All children are welcome to bring their school book bags to be blessed. The Rev. John Hazel is pastor, (570) 646-3469. Visitors are always welcome.

World Hunger boxes will be distributed on Sept. 5, Labor of Love Sunday. The boxes will be collected on Nov. 21, Christ the King Sunday.

Donations are being accepted for the fall rummage sale. You may drop your items in the church basement, or call Fran Watto to arrange for pick up, (570) 669-9257.

NCFC auxiliary

The ladies auxiliary to the New Columbus Fire Company will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. at the fire house. Gerry McConnon is the president and will conduct the meeting.

Coaldale

First Congregational Church

Morning Worship will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, at First Congregational Church, Ruddle Street, followed at 10 a.m. by Adult Sunday School.

A service will be held at the Hometown Nursing Home at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31.

St. Luke's Miners and MapleShade services will be conducted at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively, on Wednesday, Sept. 1.

Also on Wednesday, Sept. 1, choir rehearsal will be held at 6:30 p.m. New members are welcome to attend.

On Sunday, Sept. 5, Morning Worship will be at 9 a.m. and Adult Sunday School will be at 10 a.m.

Coaldale alumni reunion

There will be a Coaldale High School Alumni Reunion on May 28, 2011, at Genetti's Hall, Hazleton.

Letters will be in the mailed within two weeks. Anyone not receiving a letter may obtain one by calling (570) 645-9733.

Those who attended Coaldale schools for any length of time are invited.
