Slatington man drunk in Tamaqua

A Slatington man was cited by Tamaqua police after he was discovered sleeping in a doorway at the Berwick House Apartments on West Broad Street. The incident was rported at 11 p.m. on Wednesday.

Barry Rausch, 39, who gave officers an adress of 443 S. Walnut St., Slatington, was found asleep in the doorway blocking anyone from entering or exiting. He had a strong odor of alcohol on his person and exhibited signs of intoxication when he was awakened by officers.

Rausch had three plastic shopping bags with him, two containing unopened cans of beer. Rausch and his possessions were taken into custody.

Officers were unable to contact any friend or family member willing to come and get Rausch, who asked to be lodged in the cell block to "sleep it off." His wish was granted.

He was later cited for public drunkenness and released.
