Attempted break-in, thefts probed

State police at Lehighton reported on an attempted burglary, theft and criminal mischief incidents occurring earlier this week.

The attempted break-in occurred at the residence of Carmela Zaccheo, 54, of 125 Drakes Drive, Penn Forest Township, Jim Thorpe. Troopers said about 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25, unknown criminals smashed a side door window to gain entry to the home. As the criminals entered the home an alarm sounded which apparently scared them off.

Two theft incidents are being probed.

A 13-year-old male reported someone removed his Ipod Touch while he was at Camp Harlem, in Polk Township, Monroe County. The teen said the theft occurred during the time frame of July 27 and Aug. 22.

Marie A. Hample, 40, of Walnut St., Kunkletown, Eldred Township, Monroe County, reported her 2005 Dodge Magnum was entered while parked at her residence and removed as a purse which contianed her credit cards, checkbook and about $60 in cash. The unlocked vehicle was entered sometime between 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 24, and 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

Acts of criminal mischief were also probed.

Derek Mrinkov, of Kunkletown Rd., in Eldred Township, reported someone scratched the passenger side door on his vehicle. The incident occurred sometime between 10 p.m. on Tuesday and 7 a.m. on Wednesday.

George Yeager, 76, of 103 Spring House Drive, in Saylorsburg, Ross Township, Monroe County, reported someone damaged a lamp post in front of his home. The incident occurred sometime overnight of Wednesday into Thursday.
