Earns doctorate, joins staff at Johns Hopkins University

Brent Steven Mosser, formerly of Lake Hauto, Nesquehoning, has earned the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Education from The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Mosser has accepted a senior staff position as Director of Academic Support and Disability Services with Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Johns Hopkins is broadening and enhancing academic services for its undergraduates and Brent will be on the leading edge of that effort.

Dr. Mosser is the son of Larry and Diane Mosser of Lake Hauto, and a graduate of Panther Valley High School. Brent, his wife Beth, and their daughter Emily will be relocating to Baltimore.

At Ohio State, Brent is the Associate Director of the University's Walter E. Dennis Learning Center. The Center provides academic learning services and support to students, including strategies for college success. He also serves by invitation as a member of the University Staff Advisory Committee, where he is Co-Chair of the Governance Subcommittee. The USAC provides a means for staff to interact with the President's Office on non-academic issues.

Brent received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University and worked several years as an engineer before embarking on a career in education. He returned to Penn State and became certified to teach physics and science. Following a stint as the physics teacher and tennis coach at Palmerton High School, Dr. Mosser enrolled at Kutztown University and earned his Master of Education, receiving the Dr. Frank A. Bucci Outstanding Student Affairs Graduate Award. He was also inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society while at Kutztown. Following receipt of his Masters, Brent resumed his professional career as Assistant Director of the Learning Assistance and Resource Center at West Chester University.
