No injuries in Monroe crash
No one was injured in a two vehicle crash that occurred about 9:10 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 23, at the intersection of SR209 and Gilbert Rd., in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County. It was one of two crashes probed by state police at Lehighton.
Troopers said John R. Wright Jr., 36, of Bensalem, Bucks County, was driving a 2009 Kia Borrego northbound on 209 while Katelyn A. Newhart, 19, of Lehighton, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt westbound on Gilbert Rd. At the intersection Newhart failed to stop for red light and struck the passenger side of Wright's vehicle in the intersection, troopers said.
With Newhart was passenger Tanner J. Costello, 18, also of Lehighton. With Wright was Diane F. Wright, 35, and David Wright, 19, of Bensalem.
Troopers cited Newart for driving a vehicle at a (un) safe speed.
Troopers investigated a crash about 6:49 pm. on Wednesday, Aug. 25, along Forest Inn Road, just east of Hahns Dairy Road, in Lower Towamensing Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Stephen R. Barclay, 19, of Palmerton, was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo southbound and Vicki A. Beck, 42, also of Palmerton, was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier northbound. Troopers said Barclay crossed the center line and collided into the Beck's car nearly head-on. Beck attempted to avoid a collision but could not, troopers noted.
Beck was injured and taken to the Palmerton Hospital by Palmerton ambulance for treatment, troopers said. Barclay was not injured. Troopers cited Barclay for driving on roadways laned for traffic.
