Sharapova falls at Open
Three-time major champion Maria Sharapova lost to top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki 6-3, 6-4 in the fourth round of the U.S. Open.
Sharapova, who won the 2006 title at Flushing Meadows, hurt herself with nine double-faults and a total of 36 unforced errors 26 more than 2009 U.S. Open runner-up Wozniacki.
It's the first victory for Wozniacki (pictured above) in three career meetings against Sharapova, who was seeded 14th this year in New York.
Five-time champion Roger Federer beat 13th-seeded Jurgen Melzer of Austria 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-3 to reach the quarterfinals at a 26th Grand Slam tournament in a row.
Big Ben voted out
as Steelers' captain
Ben Roethlisberger is no longer a Pittsburgh Steelers captain. Dennis Dixon is the new Steelers quarterback, at least for the time being.
Roethlisberger, suspended for the first four games of the season by the NFL, was not chosen a Steelers captain in a vote of his teammates. He was selected the previous two seasons.
Wide receiver Hines Ward was voted as an offensive captain for the sixth season, while tight end Heath Miller was chosen for the first time.
Linebacker James Farrior will be the lone defensive captain, the seventh time he was selected. James Harrison was not selected after being chosen last year.
