The Tamaqua Elementary Parent Teacher Organization will meet Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the Tamaqua Elementary School Library. Parents of all Rush Township students, kindergarten through fifth grade, are also welcome. Upcoming events will be the main topic of discussion.

Anyone interested in supporting the students is welcome to become a member. The organization will be accepting memberships through Dec. 31. Tara McCarroll-Stauffenberg is in charge of the membership drive.

Fundraising packets have been distributed to all classes.

Open house at Tamaqua Elementary School will be held on Sept. 22. Hours for grades two and three will be from 6-7:30 p.m. For families of the fourth and fifth grade students, hours will be from 7-9 p.m.

Rush Elementary will hold open house for all grades on Sept. 23, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The first school dance is scheduled for Sept. 17. The event will be held from 7-9 p.m., in the school gym and is open to students in grades three through five.

Board of health

The September meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health was held at the municipal building with Randolph Gormley, James Gormley, Earl Boettger and Health Enforcement Officer James Barron in attendance.

Barron reportedly made six spot check inspections during August: Happy Endings Inc.; Last Chance Saloon; Tiki Inc.; BPO Elks Lodge 592; American Hose Company No. 1 and the Keystone Fish and Game Club. He also received and adjusted six complaints: four concerning rubbish/trash; one infestation; and one broken sewer line. There were no cases of reportable diseases during the month.

The board meets the first Tuesday of every month, at 11:30 a.m., in the Tamaqua Municipal Building.

SWNC

The South Ward Neighborhood Committee will meet Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. at 230 Race St. The meeting will include a reorganization of committee assignments.

All committee members are asked to attend.

Zion Lewistown

The Rev. Sunny Stock will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Harvest Home Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. A children's service will be included. Harvest Home items will be donated to Women In Crisis. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.

On Monday, the Women's Guild will meet at 7:30 p.m.

Confirmation class will begin Sept. 16. The class is open to those who have reached the age of 12 or who are in sixth grade.

St. Peter's Union

The Rev. Rodney Wells will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Harvest Home Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include Sunday school promotions, a Joyous Noise Offering and special music by the Cherub Choir. Harvest Home items may be taken to the fellowship hall.

Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.

Activities for next week will include: Monday, food co-op at 9 a.m.; Tuesday, newsletter deadline; Wednesday, dinner theater rehearsal at 6:15 p.m.; Thursday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m.

Choir rehearsals are held on Thursdays. Next week's schedule will include: Cherubs at 6:30 p.m., Junior Choir at 7 p.m., and Senior Choir at 7:45 p.m.

Calvary UM

Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church will continue holding its services and events at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle, 614 Valley Rd., until further notice.

The Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at this Sunday's 10:25 a.m. worship service. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, an evening of praise, worship and Bible study will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday prayer and praise services are held at 7 p.m.
